FAQs

What should we wear?

Most families prefer to coordinate colors and styles, the results of which can be very pleasing to the eye. Check out Pinterest for some great ideas.

Tip #1: Have all adult members of the family avoid white tennis shoes or sneakers, because they attract unwanted attention in a photograph.

For baby & birthday sessions I love the look of tutus & cloth diapers or diaper covers. I have a few of these to choose from.  Cute dresses & outfits are adorable as well. Consider bringing along more than one look.

Tip #2: If you are doing a first birthday cake smash, for best results, please bring at least two outfits.

I prefer to photograph newborns naked, or wearing a cute knit or wrap.  I have accumulated quite a selection of props to use during our newborns photography sessions.

And lastly, for maternity sessions pregnant mothers often look best in loose-fitting, flowing skirts or gowns that can be molded to emphasize your baby bump.  Depending on your comfort level, many pregnant women look striking in tightly fitted clothing from head to toe. Regardless of what you choose, it is important to me that you are comfortable and relaxed during your session.

Tip #3:  Pregnant women especially, should wear shoes that are comfortable but also as stylish as possible. A nice pair of sandals, cowboy boots, or flats look best in photographs.

You can change your wardrobe during the session if you would like to include two looks. Please notify me beforehand if you do plan on changing outfits so that our session time can be adjusted to accommodate slightly more time.

Do we have to bring our own props and blankets?

If you have an outfit that carries special meaning, we can certainly include pictures of the baby fully dressed. I have a lot of wraps and accessories, which were made exclusively for Threshold Photography, by; Mountain Mommy’s Crochet, Taopan, Creations 4 MaisieGracee Collection.  I plan to use a variety of these during every newborn photography session, and many baby photography sessions as well.

If you have something that you would like to bring from home, or something that was purchased specifically for your baby’s newborn or birthday pictures (headbands, hats, stuffed animals, blankets, etc…), please let me know beforehand, so that I can plan to incorporate these items during your session.

Can you come to our house for the newborn session?

Technically, yes.

While it is possible to do a newborn shoot on location, I have found that the sheer volume of props & posing equipment required makes it much easier on everyone if we book the session at my in-home studio space. To help the baby stay calm and relaxed, I heat the studio to a temperature between 80-85 degrees and have a white noise machine playing in the background.

What should we do to be ready for our session?

For newborns, please bring your baby to the studio hungry & tired. Try not feed your baby for at least 3 hours prior to your session. Also, do not let the baby sleep in the car on the way to the studio. Once you arrive you will give the baby a full feeding and hopefully they will then fall into a deep sleep.

Parents should also feel encouraged to bring along any additional items that have shown to provide comfort and soothing (swaddles, pacifiers, etc) to help the session go more smoothly.

For all other baby, birthday & family sessions, please bring your children well-rested & well-fed prior to your arrival.

Read my what to expect during your session pages, here for additional information.

How much does the session cost?

Please see my pricing page for details.

What does it mean when you say “file printable to 8×10”?

A file printable to 8×10 is sized to allow you to easily print the standard sized prints (wallets, 4×6, 5×7, and 8×10) at your favorite consumer lab like Costco, Walgreens, Shutterfly & Snapfish.

What are your products and how much do they cost?

My products are artwork and keepsakes for the home.  They include, but are not limited to, heirloom albums, canvases, metal & wood prints, and framed fine art prints.  I was lucky enough to be chosen as an exclusive vendor of the Organic Bloom frames.  These frames are gorgeous and unique, and come in a practically unlimited variety of shapes, sizes and color choices.

See my pricing page for my collection starting prices, or contact me for my full product pricing guide.

What about the Full-Resolution Digital Files?

You can purchase these as well.  Please see my pricing page for details. If you have specific questions about this prior to booking, please contact me for details.

What about sales tax?

As a licensed business operating in Tucson, AZ, I am required to collect a combined 8.1% sales tax on behalf of the City of Tucson and the State of Arizona.

For accounting purposes, my session fee is separated from my and art & digital file prices.  Session fees, as a service based fee, does not require sales tax.  However, sales tax will be added to any product purchases.

–   TESTIMONIAL   –

We have never had family portraits taken before, and Tina was able to help us feel comfortable and relaxed.  I was worried that my two very active boys wouldn’t enjoy the experience.  But even they had fun!

The photos Tina took were phenomenal and we ended up having many favorites.  I am so glad that we took the time to do this as a family, and I look forward to doing another family photo session again soon.

How do we book with you?

Give me a call, send me text (520-255-6696), or email me (tina@threshold-photography.com)!

Once we chat and discuss the type of session you need, I will send you a contract to review and sign, and you will send me the non-refundable retainer fee to book your session. Once I have the retainer fee, we will choose a date & time, and your session will be reserved!

Then prior to your session we will make sure to discuss the location of the session and the style of shots you are hoping to achieve. What your color and prop preferences might be, and whether there are any particular poses or items that you want incorporated into your session.

How do you book newborn sessions if you don’t know the birth date?

Ideally the baby will be between 6-12 days old when we do the newborn session. So when you call to book your session, I will usually schedule you for the first weekend following your estimated due date.  This date ends up working well for the majority of my newborns.

However, if baby comes much earlier or later than that, we will be able to adjust the date of your session by a week or two.

Our baby has already been born, can we still book a newborn session?

Contact me to see if I have availability. I will do my best to get you scheduled as soon as possible.

What happens after our session is over?

Unless otherwise noted, it will take no more than 2-3 weeks to edit and prepare your images. I will contact you once your images are ready, and you can either return to my studio to view your images and finalize your product order, or I can create an online gallery for you to view and purchase your products for an additional $25 fee.

Once I place your finalized product order, depending on your choices, it should take anywhere from two weeks to a month to receive your prints and products. I will contact you in order to arrange pickup, delivery, or shipping of the items to your home residence.

You will receive your flash drive with your included print-ready files, watermarked web-sized files, and any full-resolution digital files you purchased at this time as well.
