Every first birthday & cake smash session will start with birthday portraits. I ask that parents bring any items that hold special significance to them or their child, and at least 2-4 outfits to coordinate. There is also always an option to include family portraits during the session as well.
First Birthday & Cake Smash Session – Baby E
This wonderful family contacted me while in town visiting from New York City, last November. They came to celebrate both little E’s first birthday and Thanksgiving with his Grandma here in Tucson.
While discussing the theme & decor of the session over the phone, I discovered that E’s nursery is decorated in pale greys & blues, and that E’s dad loves to surf! As it turns out, we have an old Skurfer board in our garage, and I thought this would be perfect to add in to his session as a surprise for Dad. For the rest of the session, we wanted to stick with a clean shabby chic & beachy feel. So we chose to use aquas, light blues, beach woods, and a variety of different plank floor backdrops.
Also, since they came all the way here from New York, I thought we just had to include some cactus in the session somehow. These are pictures taken in my front yard! And I couldn’t have been happier with how beautifully it turned out!
After we finished with the summer surfer portion of the session, I quickly changed backgrounds to set up for the family portraits. They chose to continue with the pale grey theme for some of their family portraits, but also loved the darker warm wood background as well. I think the sweaters, jeans & flannels really sold the fall look, even though it was still 95 degrees outside in the unseasonable warm November Arizona sunshine.
Then to finish up, we moved into the cake smash portion of the session. Little E did great! He didn’t love wearing his birthday hat, but he did really enjoy tasting his custom smash cake from Nadine’s Bakery!
